The Lake.
07.10.04 (4:16 am)   [edit]
The Lake

The moon hung full, shimmering softly, perched in the clear, golden sky. Birdsong echoing sweetly across the canapy. Joyously, flitting amongst the willows, the song bird finaly comes to rest, the low branch flexing, bearly noticing the weight. From above the lake it perched, watching the tiny boat, rocking unsteadily as the man carefully placed the oars safely inside the hull of the craft. Smiling warmly, a hand pushing his dark hair from his face, he sat.

Jen opened the flask, straining to unscrew the lid.
'Smells good ...thanks for remembering sweetheart..I need it'...pouring a cup of the sweet coffee...Jen held it out..watching the expression on Sam's face.
'Baby I thought we wern't going to talk about this,...no..what I mean is - I - dont want to talk about this mess'..Heaving a sigh she settled back against his broad chest, turning to wrap both arms tightly around him. Sam grinned, taking the cup from her small hand, his free and stroking ...playing amongst the curls of her hair.
'I know love, lets just make the most of today, we dont have much more time', he sipped at the lukewarm liquid, staring out across the lake. The Lake had become 'their place', somewhere quiet, to be happy for the short time they had alone. He wouldnt spoil their time, not today.

Sam turned his gaze to Jenny, holding her close..almost too tight...her scent, as always, was arousing...tugging at his heart,...he would do anything to make this day last. If only time would stand still. The breeze drifted gently, tuging at the loose strands of auban hair...Jen had tied into a loose topnot. He felt her heart, gently beating against his...hypnotic..dream like. Again he felt like it was all a dream..a wonderful dream, something he never wanted to wake from.
Jenny squirmed alittle getting comfy, a small sigh escaping her lips, shes sleepy again, he thought taking the heavy woolen blanket, wrapping it around them both snugly. Been a tough time for both of them, and more to come no doubt.

The twilight deepened as night closed in, the air a little chilly now, playing across the smooth silk of the lakes surface...the gentle waves lapping at the hull. They drifted, slowly, listening to the night, watching it grow darker, content in each others arms...no need to speak. Sam rested his head gently against Jens soft hair, breathing in the sweet smell as she slept. Reluctantly sliding from under her, he lay her carefully down onto the pile of cushions and coats, befor taking the oars once again. Stiring in her sleep, Jen opened one eye to look up at the stars...twinkling like sparkly dimonds against the velvert sky.

'What are you doing sweetheart?', resting a hand on the gentle swelling of her belly, 'Its not time yet...is it?. Sam shook his head smiling,
'I just wanted to get us under the trees...its getting chilly..might rain, I think', Jen chuckled raising herself up onto an elbow.
'Its so clear!..its not going to rain silly...but I like the trees ', sitting up arranging the blanket across her lap.
'Feeling better love?', Sam asked, coming to sit by her, his large hand taking hers. She nodded turning to kiss his cheek lightly,
'Im fine, are you?'. Taking her in his arms he sighed..
'Nope..., Im going to miss you, miss you both' ,pulling away to brush a hand slowly over her belly, 'so tiny, I still cant believe it'. A tear fell, running slowly down over his hand, Jen smiled alittle...holding back the flood of tears she knew was coming.
'I dont know what Im doing,.. still', she pulled him close resting her head against his shoulder. Her eyes drawn to the blue bells along the bank, luminesent in the glow of the moon.

Jenny cried, cried like she did every time he had to leave her. And he held her close, not knowing how to make it all better, wishing he could.
'I will try to come back sooner baby..I promise, but you know it will be a month..at least. Will you tell him?...if you dont,....I can tell him when I come back, if you want that?' Jen spoke quietly, between sobs.
'No..I should be the one...I have to do it, I need time tho.' Wiping her tear stained face against the back of her hand. 'I have to be the one to tell him'. Sam held a finger to her chin, tiping her face to his.
'You need to do it soon baby, we can't go on like this, its making you ill, not good for the little one either. I know its hard..but I also know how strong you are!...you can do it!'..pressing his lips tenderly to hers, he felt her shiver..her warm lips parting, soft breath tingling over his lips as his kiss grew stronger, his tongue sliping gently into her wetness, tasting what he wanted most of all. Jen pulled away slowly,
'I think its time...time to go darling, you will miss your train'...planting a soft kiss one last time, her fingers lingering at the nape of his neck. Sam smiled sadly, taking her hand to his cheek...kissing her soft fingers each in turn as she watched...eyes glazed, trancelike.
'Yes, your right...again'

Sam turned the boat, pulling on the oars, taking them back, towards the small jetty. Back to their reality.
